Welcome to 2010 with Bernina. Its been a rather active
and exciting time for us at Bernina in 2009 with so many
people out there sewing along with the launch of our 800
series machines and of course we have expanded into the shop
next door for all sewing machine servicing and repairs.
It seemed a new sewing machine
was high on the
priority list this year for xmas.
We do hope you are all enjoying our regular new "Sew
Informative Newsletter". This is an informative
publication that will keep you up to date world wide and
locally with whats happening in the wonderful world of
Bernina. You can receive this via email or simply pop into
our store and collect a copy.

ANNAH STRETTON -
you must of
all heard of Annah S - Designs
The DIY Annah S Kits are now in our store - yes thats
right for all the fans of Annah S - Bernina are trialing out
her "Pink Ladies" Kits Collection - there has been alot of
interest in the short time they have been in our store.
Basically Annah's 4 top selling designs, a Cardi, Camisole,
Reversable Skirt and Reversable Wrap Dress are the designs.
So come in and take a look, the kits are all cut out
including the label and trims, and ready to go at half
the price you would pay in her shops - all you have to do is
get your thread and needles.
HAVE YOU HAD YOUR SEWING MACHINE SERVICED
LATELY???
At Bernina Palmerston North we have our own on site
technician who is passionate about servicing and repairing
all brands of machines. It is important to have that regular
WOF as there is nothing more fustrating than going to start
your sewing and having a problem with your machine. You wont
have to be without your machine for long either!
SCISSOR SHARPENING
- Remember to bring your sewing scissors
into our store - each Wednesday we have our mobile scissor
sharpening man come to us. Just $8.50 pair to be
sharpened.
BERNINA CLUB NIGHTS:
Please diary these dates Friday 19 March at 6.30
pm and the next Evening will be a Thursday 27 May. Everyone
on our Bernina Night email list will be advised of further
dates as they are set during the year.
$5.00 Casual or Annual Fee is $45.00 to
receive the Bernina Inspiration Magazine free. Our Bernina
nights are a relaxed informative evening where we
demonstrate and speak about new products, sewing ideas,
techniques and accessories etc. This keeps you up to date
and we try to give you inspiration. Friendships are made and
we can learn from each other at these evenings. We do
encourage you to bring along your finished or unfinished
projects for our popular Show n Tell. And of course our shop
is always open late for shopping with specials and lucky
draws on that night.
CLASSES
Start the new year as you
mean to go on - upskill your
sewing skills and get inspired by coming along to a class at
Bernina - we’d love to see you in one of our sewing classes
in 2010, they are fun, informative and productive. To attend
our classes, firstly, you require your sewing machine. Its
quite important to make sure that your machine is in good
working order before your class. Our Technician Fred, can
service your machine prior to the class if you wish. You
also need to have all your sewing notions for the class that
you have registered in, i.e. scissors, pins, marking
equipment, tape measure, threads and also a Sense of Humour!
SMALL QUILTS/WALL HANGING CLASSES

Friday 16th and Saturday 17th April 9am -
4pm
Fee: $100.00 with needs list to be given
out upon enrollment.
Make a small unique quilt approx 20"
square which could be the centre of a larger project,
cushion cover or small wall hanging. A fun class where many
techniques will be learnt to make your own individual star
with the added zing of a celtic pattern . Making the zig zag
border to fit any size edge will also be taught.

with enrollment.
Another small quilt/wall hanging class,
which incorporates many techniques fun to work with
including some freehand and beading. The leaves and flowers
creates a lovely 3D effect.
REGULAR DRESSMAKING CLASSES
Daytime Class: Thursday 4 March to 8th
April inclusive 1pm - 4pm (6 weeks)
Tutor: Robyn
Fee: $120 payable before class commences.
Numbers will be limited for this class. So it will be
important to secure your place early.
Come in and enjoy sewing up your garments
in a relaxed atmosphere here, under our guidance and we can
help you through any difficulties you might have. You will
be amazed at what you will get made
and how quickly you can fill your wardrobe plus get that
perfect fit!!
SCHOOL HOLIDAY CLASSES
Monday April 12th & Thursday 15th 10am - 1pm
Tutor Robyn
Fee: $60.00 ( Kit included)
This class is designed for younger students who are keen
to get sewing and be inspired in the holidays. You will be
making up a trendy shoulder bag, - a simple project that
includes a few sewing techniques. We prefer these students
to have some knowledge of how to thread and work a sewing
machine before enrolling into this class.
BEGINNERS LEARN TO SEW
(6 week course)
Monday Evenings: Starting 15th February - 22nd March
inclusive 5.30-8pm
Fee: $80.00 and this includes your kits and folders for
sampling.
Tutor: Shirley
Sample techniques that you will learn include, zips,
darts, seams, hems etc, which will be put in your folder so
you can keep for future reference. You will also make a
skirt, while still learning your sample techniques.A basic A
Line skirt pattern, with zip and darts . You are required to
bring your own machine in good working order and you are
required to know how to operate your machine. Further
classes will be run upon demand
ADVANCED SKIRT CLASS
Monday Evenings, April 12, 19 & 26th from
6pm - 8.30pm (Daytime Classes upon demand)

Class Fee: $50.00
This class is a great follow up from
Beginners Learn to sew class but making a more advanced
skirt incorporating some interesting fashion techniques.
FASHIONABLE WAIST COATS

Everyone
seems to want a waist coat these days, so we thought why not
run the class, create your own, using the correct techniques
with our expert tutor - once you've made one, - you will
realise how enjoyable they are to make up.
FUN BAG CLASS
Saturday May 29th and Sat 12th June
1.30pm – 4.30pm
Fee $ 65.00 includes your pattern

Make this creative and much admired bag,
adding your own personal touches to embellish. You will be
surprised at how easy this is to construct. You can create
so many different looks from this one pattern.
MACHINE EMBROIDERY CLASS
Fridays starting 29 January last Friday
of each month 10am - 3pm
Fee: $210 (6 Month fee) OR (Annual Fee
$320.00)
Achieve the best out of your embroidery machine and
software. This is a great opportunity for you to become
familiar with the many, many features these amazing
computors have. Whilst there is a project running
which is the Elizabethen Quilt - you have the choice to work
on any other project you wish during these classes its a
great time to finish off and learn off others, plus make
friends.
GET TO KNOW YOUR AURORA MACHINE (6 month course)
First Friday of the month commencing Feb 5th, March 5th
April 9, May7th, June 4th, July 2nd. from 2pm - 4pm

Term Fee: $80.00 includes small kits of
fabric
Come along and explore just what your machine will do for
you – this is a sampler class making your creative sewing a
breeze. There are so many techniques to learn, you will be
truly amazed. These techniques will enhance your Quilting
and Embellishing.
FABRICS FROM THREADS
Friday 12th March 1- 3pm
Class Fee: $25.00

Start saving all your left over
threads - especially from bobbins.
You will be very surprised at what you
will create from this quick, creative class. You will be
able to put your finished sample into something like
framing, clothing embellishments, bowls, cards etc.
TROUSERS THAT FIT
Saturday 22nd May 9am - 4pm OR
Monday Evenings (2 weeks) June 14 & 21 at 5.30 - 8.30

Fee: $70.00 includes pattern
Trousers can be the easiest and quickest garment to make
but quite challenging getting the pattern to fit right. You
make up a tuille to a specific pattern which we provide,
with particular attention being made to measuring and
altering of the pattern just to get that perfect fit we all
want for our shape. only, then transferring any adjustments
from your sampler onto your paper pattern - ready to make
your trousers.
JACKETS
Mondays May 3rd, 10th & 17th inclusive from 10am - 3pm
Fee: $110.00 Tutor: Shirley
Construct a fabulous jacket of your pattern choice using
tailoring techniques getting that
perfect fit. Whether it be a casual jacket or formal you
will still get the right fit and
perfect fall.
KNOW YOUR OVERLOCKER
Monday 8th February 10am -
1pm or 5.30 – 8.30
Fee: Free for newly purchased Bernina Overlockers and
$50.00 for older Overlockers and other brands.
Tutor: Shirley
Become fully confident with your overlocker by learning
how each thread functions, how to sew around internal and
external corners, roll hemming and flat locking etc. You
will be surprised how much you learn about your overlocker.
MACHINE FELTING CLASS:
Thursday 10 June 1 - 4pm
Tutor: Robyn
Fee: $30.00
Learn how to manage your Bernina Felting/Embellishing
attachment on your machine by making a small purse and
creating some wonderful designs that can also be beaded with
extra add ons. A quick and fun little class.

Because of heavy bookings of classes, a deposit of half
the class fee is required to secure your place.
(Cancellations) Refunds will only be given on class deposits
21 days prior to the class.
