Welcome to our latest classes and newsletter. 

We continue to experience an upsurge in people wanting to sew and learn the correct basic techniques, - it fantastic to see and we really enjoy seeing the outcome of their projects, its so satisfying. So come in and see whats hot at the Bernina Shop!

We are coming to Dannevirke!

Watch this space  - Bernina will be having a  Bernina Expo/ Machine Service  Clinic

for all our clients in the Tararua area.

SEWING CLASSES    January  - June 2012

We've had great students in our classes this year, and its always nice to see new friendships being made, so if you think you would like to improve on your sewing skills and get inspired by coming along to a class at Bernina - we’d love to see you in one of our sewing classes, they are fun, informative and productive. To attend our classes, firstly, you require your sewing machine.
Its quite important to make sure that your machine is in good working order before your class. Our Technician Fred, can service your machine prior to the class if you wish. You also need to have all your sewing notions for the class that you have registered in, i.e. scissors, pins, marking equipment, tape measure, threads and also a
Sense of Humour!
 

BERNINA NIGHTS: Please make a note in your diary:   Friday  9 March  and Monday 21 May at 6.30 pm. If you are not getting advised via email about our Bernina nights - please do let us know.
$5.00 Casual or Annual Fee is $45.00 to receive the
Bernina Inspiration Magazine free. Our Bernina nights are a relaxed informative evening where we demonstrate and speak about new products, sewing ideas, techniques and accessories etc. This keeps you up to date and we try to give you inspiration. Friendships are made and we can learn from each other at these evenings. We do encourage you to bring along your finished or unfinished projects for our popular Show n Tell
. And of course our shop is always open late for shopping with specials and lucky draws on that night.  This is a popular and beneficial night which can be attended by anybody.We are always very keen to hear from you what you would like to have demonstrated, as we have been running this evening for 17 years - we do run out of ideas sometimes.

BEGINNERS LEARN TO SEW (6 week course)  Make a skirt

Tuesday Evenings: 7 February  - 13 March  (inclusive)  5.30-8pm 
Fee: $110.00  includes your kits and folders for sampling.
Tutor: Shirley

The main focus of this class is learning and sampling basic sewing skills which include, zips, darts, seams variations, hems etc.  These samples are put into a folder so you can keep for future reference.  at the same time you make a skirt while still learning your sample techniques.  A basic A Line Skirt pattern is required with at least zip and darts.  You are required to bring along your own machine in good working order also be familiar with operating that machine.

Get to know your Bernette Machine  (Make a Journal Cover)

Fee:  $25 (includes Kit)

Monday Evening 19 March  5.30 - 7.30pm  or

Saturday Afternoon 31 March  1.30 - 3.30pm

This is a fabulous quick and easy class for those of you who own a Bernette Machine, using a heavy duty needle you will be surprised at how your machine will handle heavy duty fabric.

Felted Roses

Saturday 24 March   2pm - 4pm

Fee:  $35 (includes kit)

Tutor:  Robyn

This is a quick class, to teach those of you with the Bernina Punch Tool how you can make wonderful roses.  You will achieve a sample to take home and makes up a suitable purse too!  Check out the sample black coat in our shop.

 

Skidding and Tricks with your  830 Sewing Computor

Thursday  29 March  2 - 4pm (Part one) & Friday 30th March   10am - 12 (part two)

Tutor:  Robyn

Fee: $ 40.00  (Includes kit and notes)

This is a fun quickie sampler class, trialling some of the tricks on your 830 - you'll be quite surprised.  Machines can be left overnight inbetween sessions.

Beginners Patchwork Class

Monday Evenings  16 April :  6pm - 8pm    (6 week course)

Fee:  $60.00 plus needs list

Tutor:  Robyn

Skill level  - Beginner

This class is a guide to get you through the first steps in Patchwork,. Each week you will learn a patchwork technique, how to use specialized equipment, cutting etc and before long you  will be addicted and want to do more! Learn with the right tools to make the job much easier and fun while learning about your machine and accessories.

Hearts from Threads

Saturday 25 February    2pm - 4pm

Fee: $25 (part kit supplied)

A very fun, quick class, where you will gain confidence in freehand sewing on your machine, by combining a variety of threads etc, and creating some wonderful heart shapes at the end of 2 hours that you can do so many things with!!

 

MERINO SEWING CLASS:

Saturdays   May 19, June  2nd & 16th  1.30 - 4.30pm (Fortnightly Saturdays) 9 hour class

Tutor: Robyn

Fee: $70.00

Make that fabulous top or under garment in Merino.  It seems that everyone is wearing merino - summer or winter - a lovely fabric to sew and wear.  We can show you tips and tricks when working with this fabric and of course the finishing touches.  An overlocker or sewing machine can be used.  Recommend a walking foot  or dual feed if using your sewing machine.

PATTERN DRAFTING CLASS 

Thursday Evenings 29 March -  3 May  inclusive 7-9pm

Tutor:  Helen
Fee: $120.00 per 6 week course

Gain confidence and learn Basic Pattern Drafting from personal measurements for skirts and trousers, also altering the basic pattern to any style required.

Tricky Pockets

Saturday April 28th  1pm - 5pm

Fee:  $60  (includes kit)

Tutor Shirley

If your wanting a challenge, this is the class for you.  Shirley weill take you through the trickier pockets such as, the floating pockets and the curved welt pockets and more!  This class is suitable for the Intermediate-Advanced sewer.

REGULAR DRESSMAKING CLASSES

Thursday Mornings  2 February  - 22 March 10am -1pm (8 Weeks)
Thursday Evenings   2 February  - 22 March  5.30 - 8.30pm

Come in and enjoy sewing up your garments in a relaxed atmosphere here, under our guidance and we can help you through any difficulties you might have. You will be amazed at what you will get made and how quickly you can fill your wardrobe plus get that perfect fit!!

GET TO KNOW YOUR  AURORA MACHINE/ REFRESHER CLASS

Friday  24 February  1.30 - 3.30
Tutor: Robyn/ Shirley

Get more familiar and gain confidence with your Aurora Machine.  Learning all the functions and bennefits, we'll take you through, so that you will feel quite comfortable and at ease.  This is a free class for brand new Aurora Owners, for those who would simply like a refresher - a charge of $25.00 applies.

JACKET MAKING

Saturdays: 23  & 30th June  inclusive from 9am - 4pm
Fee: $130.00 Tutor: Shirley

Includes  consultation, measuring and fusing PRIOR to class.
Construct a fabulous jacket of your pattern choice using tailoring techniques thus obtaining a perfect fit. Whether it be a casual jacket or formal you will still achieve that perfect jacket that fits well. Consultations must take place no later than two weeks prior to class commencement.

Trousers that Fit

Monday June 11th & 18th 5.30 – 8.30 pm

Tutors  Robyn & Shirley

Fee: $80 includes Pattern

Our Trouser classes continue to be popular.  You will be making up your Pattern from Calico to make any adjustments and finish with the perfect fit.  You also learn sewing techniques i.e.  invisible zips, fly zips, pockets etc.

KNOW YOUR OVERLOCKER

Monday January  30th  10am - 1pm  and  5.30 - 8.30pm
Fee: FREE for newly purchased Bernina/Bernette Overlockers and $50.00 for older Overlockers.
Tutor: Shirley

Become fully confident with your overlocker by learning how each thread functions, how to sew around internal and external corners, roll hemming and flat locking etc. You will be surprised how much you learn about your overlocker.
